Last winter I made a fab quilt for my eldest son who is 9. I spent ages trying to think of a design he might still want to have on his bed when he's 19 and off to college and eventually settled on a dragon flying over a castle in a big dark sky. It's pretty impressive, even if I do say so myself.
So for a while I've been thinking what I might make for son number two. He likes vehicles, construction, lego, reading, but nothing came to mind. I tried to draw out a design of the Red Arrows flying in formation over one of his favourite landmarks. Looks good, but just not inspired.
Then one day I was looking through a Facebook page for a young lad who has leukaemia. Someone had posted the quote from the Coldplay song "Look at the stars, look how they shine for you" and that decided me. The stars shine for my boys for sure.
So I am going to try to make a quilt with a whole load of stars shining in the night sky. I have no idea if it will all come together or not but I'm going to start by making some stars and see how it goes.
I might go back to my Red Arrows design, but I need to start somewhere or I will be stuck for ever in indecision.
